We love a winter wedding! From the sparkling frost that adds a beautiful ethereal effect to everything it touches, to rooms filled with the romance that only a sea of flickering candles provides. Those crisp clear star filled nights accessorised with roaring fires and cosy knitted blankets. It is such a magical time to tie the knot that throwing a winter wedding is quickly becoming just as popular as Summer. We asked expert wedding planner Rianna Elizabeth of the The Planning Suite to put together some dreamy style ideas for your perfect winter wedding. Enjoy!
Winter Wedding Style
There is something so magical about hosting your wedding during winter. Elegant, ethereal and incredibly fashionable, you can choose from a variety of colour schemes and styles. Rich jewel-tones such as red and green hues are of course a firm winter favourite. However, you can also create a chic and contemporary setting with neutral tones, or utilise deep blue and golds, dried florals, and modern elements such as terrariums for contemporary spin on the traditional ‘white’ wedding.

Theming, Florals & Tablescape
One of the most popular colour schemes we are seeing across platforms like Instagram and Pinterest, is indigo blue, gold and crisp white. This celestial ‘Cosmic Love’ theme is romantic and enchanting. Perfect for astronomy lovers, dressing your space with star-shaped lanterns, constellations printed onto menus and adding personalisation with your own star signs. Incorporating dreamy quotes within your special day, whether this be on signage, your ceremony backdrop or your guestbook.
For those looking for a modern, minimal wedding, crisp white paired with grey and sage tones, is both sleek and sophisticated. Adding trailing foliage such as eucalyptus and ferns scattered with fluffy, open blooms can be used as your table centrepiece. Alternatively incorporating succulents into your bouquet or table décor creates a very stylish look, especially if paired with glass terrariums.
Many more couples are opting for dried flowers opposed to fresh, creating a boho winter look that works well with neutral, muted tones such as nude, beige and cream. We suggest pairing this natural look with black accents such as taper candles and tableware. Another decorative element that works perfectly for the festive season, especially within your floral arrangements, are both berries and fruit. Of course, adding in the festive favourite pinecone adds that extra something!
Food & Drink
One of our favourite additions to winter wedding menus would be spiced cocktails, perfect for wintery welcome drinks! Warm apple cider, and not forgetting mulled wine, you can even end the evening on boozy hot chocolate.
When it comes to winter wedding menus, of course the trusty ‘roast’ always goes down very well. However, seasonal produce such as roasted root vegetables, local game, or British classics like Shepherd’s Pie are a popular choice for festive feasting.
Desserts can be rich and decadent such as sticky toffee puddings with caramel sauce, or light and fresh winter berry trifles. Some evening additions such as cheese stations or s’mores are fabulous for a late-night treat.
At Chalk Barn, we will tailor your winter wedding menu to the finest detail so that you and your guests can enjoy your winter favourites together. Take a look at our Eat + Drink page for more inspiration.
Winter weddings really are something so special and not to be overlooked. The scent of cinnamon and pine, snuggling under blankets with your guests by the crackling firepit, whilst sipping on a hot toddy.
Oh, and if we are blessed with snow, you can’t get much more magical than that!
